When is the best time to visit Orange Bay?

The short answer

For the best combination of warm weather, warm sea, low wind, and reasonable crowds, visit Orange Bay between mid-March and late-May, or between mid-September and mid-November.

If you can only choose one window: late April / May for the warmest spring conditions, or October for the warmest sea of the year (the Red Sea retains heat from summer well into autumn).

Spring: March to May

Land temperature: 22 to 30°C. Sea temperature: 22 to 25°C. Wind: low to moderate.

Spring is the most popular season for a reason. The land warms up but is not yet too hot for walking around. The sea is comfortable for swimming and snorkeling, especially from April onwards. Wind is generally low. Visibility underwater is at its best.

May in particular is often picked as the best month overall. Long days, warm sea, blue skies, lower hotel rates than summer peak.

Summer: June to August

Land temperature: 32 to 40°C. Sea temperature: 26 to 29°C. Wind: low.

Hot. The Red Sea coast in summer is genuinely warm. Bring extra sunscreen, drink twice the water you think you need, and consider the speedboat afternoon slot (4 PM return) so you are not on the open sea at the hottest part of the day.

On the upside: the sea is at its warmest, perfect for swimmers who feel chilly in spring. Snorkeling visibility stays excellent. Crowds peak in July and August because of European school holidays.

Autumn: September to November

Land temperature: 25 to 32°C. Sea temperature: 25 to 27°C. Wind: low.

Autumn is the second sweet spot. The sea is still warm from summer (October is often the warmest sea month of the year), the air has cooled to comfortable, the crowds drop after early September, and prices ease.

October is the standout. November is still good but cools toward winter conditions by the end of the month.

Winter: December to February

Land temperature: 18 to 24°C. Sea temperature: 20 to 22°C. Wind: variable, more cancellations.

Winter is the trade-off season. The land is pleasant (some travelers prefer it), but the sea drops to around 20°C which is too cool for many swimmers without a 3 mm shorty. Wind picks up in January and February, and the marine police cancel trips when wind speeds exceed safe limits. Plan a flexible day or two in your hotel as a backup.

Christmas and New Year are very popular despite the wind risk because of European holiday travel. If you book around 24 December to 5 January, book early.

Weather cancellations

Orange Bay trips can be cancelled when wind speeds exceed safe limits for the boats. This decision is made by the marine police on the morning of the trip, not by us. Cancellations are most common from November to early March.

If we have to cancel, you can reschedule for free (often to the next day) or get a full refund. We watch the forecast and warn guests by WhatsApp the evening before if a cancellation is likely.

Which trip type, by season?

Spring and summer: any trip type works. Shared boat for the relaxed full day, speedboat for the speed, private charter for the custom day. Spring is the prime time for the shared day boat because the long cruise is most enjoyable in cool morning air.

Autumn: same as spring, all trip types work well.

Winter: speedboat can be a smarter pick because the 45-minute crossing is less of a commitment if wind is borderline. Day boats with their longer cruises are more affected by choppy seas in winter.
